Film Screenings

The journey from exploitation to freedom is complex and is different for every survivor. We must all understand how this happens in order to protect our children and eliminate trafficking in our community. That is why Free to Thrive teamed up with FôlsHeart Productions to create Last Warning Shot and Starfish.

More information About the Films

The stories in Last Warning Shot and Starfish are fictional, but they are based on the stories we hear from human trafficking survivors every day. One of the many negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic is the increased danger to our children presented by online predators. We focused Last Warning Shot around this frightening reality to educate parents and community members about these dangers.

We focused Starfish around the story of a survivor who gets caught up in a crime committed by her trafficker to educate people on the ways in which trafficking survivors are often criminalized.  A survey by the National Survivor Network found that 90% of trafficking survivors were arrested at least one time. At Free to Thrive, 75% of our clients have a criminal record that is almost always related to their exploitation. Most of our clients had never had any interactions with law enforcement prior to their trafficking experience.

The stories in these films are just two stories among millions, yes millions of stories of human trafficking in the United States and around the world. Every victim and surivovor’s story is unique, but there are common threads through many of them. Whether it’s a business owner trafficking their employees or a trafficker forcing a child to have sex with strangers for money, at it’s core, human trafficking is about power, control, money and exploitation of another person.
