I was introduced to Free to Thrive at a safe house in 2018. I was experiencing many hardships at this time. The biggest at the time was trying to locate one of my two children and ultimately reunifying my family. When I met Jamie she told me she was going to help me locate my daughter and establish custody as well. I'm happy to say just recently in 2022 I received full custody of my daughter. At certain points things became very difficult a bit discouraging we definitely fought a uphill battle. But Jamie and one of her staff kept me encouraged, Free to Thrive was there for me every step of the way. Without the help I received I would not be in the position I am in today. Once I had help and my voice was finally heard I was able to actually focus on the other things that needed my attention. I was extremely overwhelmed at the time. I had went to the police stations and the court houses several times trying to locate my child and because of my background doors were closed over and over. This caused my mental, physical and overall well being to deteriorate drastically. So the help I received from FTT was instrumental to my success, recovery, and children's lives. I'm happy to say today that I have reunified with my children and I am completely out of the life. I've been stable since 2018 with no major setbacks. I'm extremely grateful for FTT I hope that they can continue to help others because these types of services are very important for HT victims transitioning back into society.

I really want to open a short-term residential treatment facility (STRTP) for CSEC youth. That’s what Free to Thrive is helping me do by getting all those charges wiped clean off my record. I’ll be able to reach my long term goal of creating a home and being a family for girls impacted by exploitation.

My experience going to court was very restorative. My pro bono attorney drove me to the courthouse so that I could calm my nerves and she explained everything that she thought would happen. It was total healing and I felt restored by getting my vacatur granted.

One of my professors mentioned your organization as an example of a legal service in the nonprofit sector and it really struck a chord. Human trafficking has been an issue of concern to me for several years, but my previous volunteer work experience focused more on it as an "overseas" problem. Recently, I have also turned my attention to what is happening right here in our neighborhoods and on campuses close to home. Your work in raising awareness has been very impactful - Rachel Thomas' presentation [at Journey to Freedom 2022] blew me away!
